Explore Middle-earth: Woodhall

The sleepy little hobbit-village of Woodhall lies within the forested arms of Woody End in the Eastfarthing of the Shire. Tucked away well off the Stock Road as it is, Woodhall

sees little traffic. Gossip tends to be a favorite pastime for the hobbits who dwell here, and travelers may want to avoid the occasional nosey hobbit if they find themselves

passing through.



While the village of Woodhall is relatively small and unimportant, the wooded hills it rests beneath are another matter. Overlooking the village is a wide, green clearing within

the forest where the trees form a sort of hall, complete with pillars and canopy. It is rumored that sometimes Elves can be seen traveling through Woody End and that their

lights can be seen hanging in the boughs of the clearing some evenings.

The clearing above Woodhall is where The Elf-company of Gildor Inglorion took Frodo Baggins and his companions after startling away the Black Rider who was hunting them in The

Fellowship of the Ring. Who can say what players of The Lord of the Rings: Shadows of Angmar will find in the encampment

above Woodhall?

Characters of Middle-earth: Gildor Inglorion

The noble and respected Gildor Inglorion of the House of Finrod is one of the eldest of the Elves yet remaining in Middle-earth, though his strong, youthful appearance may be deceiving. He now makes his home in the House of Elrond in Rivendell, but he can often be found in the wilds of Middle-earth with a small band of elves under his command. Gildor keeps a watchful eye over the hobbits of the Shire and the other peaceful communities, his keen eyes watching the movements of those that dwell in the darkness and shadows. Gildor is an Elf of much wisdom and immeasurable skill with blade and bow. He has elected to stay in Middle-earth with Elrond and the others, though many of their kin have long since departed across the sea from the Grey Havens.

Though Gildor has a rich history dating back over the centuries of Middle-earth's past, he is perhaps best known as the leader of the band of Elves which frightened away one of the dreaded Black Riders from Frodo and company in the pages of The Fellowship of the Ring. In so doing, Gildor saved the hobbits, welcoming them into the Elf-camp near Woodhall and allowing the companions some much-needed rest.



Gildor and his company are magnificently arrayed, even when on simple patrol, and seem to shimmer with the beauty of moonlight when they move. Wanderers in the lands of Eriador may travel with some degree of comfort, knowing that Gildor and the powerful Elves from Rivendell in the east are watchful over the movements of the Enemy.

Whay don't people just go to the vendors and buy them themselves? Good question. Ignorance or laziness I guess. These are all on the flight path for Horde or a short journey for Alliance.

New WoW Gold Guide from Valkor

There's a new kid on the gold making block with a new guide. It's called, somewhat unoriginally, Valkor's Gold Making Guide.

It costs real money so, in the interests of possibly saving you some cash, I put down my $37 and bought a copy. So many of these gold making guides are outright scams or, at best, weak copies of each other, or stuff you can find from browsing a few forums.

Was it worth it?

Overall I was impressed with the quality and depth of the guide. This definitely isn't one of those pathetic “me-too” guides so readily available. I was surprised to find many techniques in this guide that were new to me. We are all aware of the gold farmers; now you can see the ways they make so much gold so quickly. There's a mass of stuff in the guide including a lot of reference material which must have been a major undertaking to compile. A lot of the techniques are for higher level players but there's also a section for players under level 30. A few minor niggles over the organization but nothing major. To be fair there's a lot of information to sort and present.

As with all of the gold making guides there's a danger of them getting out of date quickly. The copyright date on this guide was originally February 2007 but it has been updated for may 2007. The author also promises regular updates in the future.

Warcraft Level 60-70 Guides

Days after the release of Burning Crusade, leveling guides for 60 to 70 have become available.

Since we can now level to 70 and most of us want to quickly, I thought I would check out the guides and guide updates for level 60-70. Most of the commercial guides have been updated since the authors were all invited into beta testing.

Joana's Horde Guide has a level 60 to 70 Burning Crusade update ready for download. Joana was the record holder for the fastest to level 60 (under 5 days played) on a new server and I expect a similar record for level 70.

Bill Kopp also has an Alliance level 60 to 70 Burning Crusade Guide:

There's a WoW guide on sale called Cash Creating Guide which promises to lay bare World of Warcraft gold secrets. The author makes some pretty big claims:

"The Most Hated Player in World of Warcraft Blows the Lid Off the Corrupt Gold-Farming Industry and Reveals the Secret Tactics You Can Use to Legally Make up to 60 Gold an Hour or More Without Using Hacks and Without Getting Banned...So You Never Have to Buy Gold Again!"

"In this 81 page report I lay out all the gold creating secrets I've discovered in my almost 2 years of playing World of Warcraft. I hold absolutely nothing back! These are the same secret tactics that have made me thousands of gold with ease and make me the number one target of the gold sellers hatred for releasing them."

Big claims but does the guide live up to its promises?

I figured it was worth the money to check it out since the author is offering a refund if it isn't up to spec. The first thing that you notice is that the guide is relatively short at 81 pages due to the absence of any fluff. He gets right down to a number of different methods of making
WoW gold straight off the bat.

One of the other guides I bought, which shall remain nameless, was almost nothing but fluff. It went into great detail about how to sell in the AH and how green items were worth more then grey. Duh. Anyway, I digress. The Cash Creating Guide is different. It's all substance and no fluff. It isn't for absolute beginners certainly but if you have an idea how to sell in the AH and know your way around the zones you may be ready for this guide.

I pride myself on knowing most ways to make WoW gold but I have to say there were some great ideas in there that I hadn't discovered. I'm not going to share them in this blog since the author has obviously put a lot of work into the guide and it wouldn't be fair to steal his ideas. There a whole mix of techniques for almost any level. It includes a bit of everything including trading, timing, crafting, hunting, gathering etc.

It's a bit difficult to say how good the guide is without revealing all his secrets but it works and works well. I've tried only a few techniques in the guide, and there are many, and I've already made several hundred gold almost effortlessly.

The drawback is that it does cost real money, in this case $37. Worth it? I think so. If you are short of gold you can either make it of buy it. Buying a decent amount of gold will cost you more than the price of the guide and when you've spent it, it's gone. With this guide you can make more gold whenever you need it.
